Framing the meaning of an interactive family visit to the Museum

Museums are used to adapting their message to school students through guided and interactive visits, workshops of creative expression supervised by a cultural mediator, etc. Nevertheless, the policy to welcome families in the context of a non-guided visit raises a series of conceptual and operational difficulties as there are few studies dealing with the expectations of families with children aged 8 to 12 when they undertake a non-guided visit of a Museum. From a theoretical standpoint, reflecting on new services the Museum could provide to families with children from 8 to 12 years old, highlights the need to embed three forms of mediation – museal, parental and technological -, to enhance a joint parent-child museum experience that both achieves some learning and reinforces family ties.


Indexing of digitized comic books

In order to facilitate the exploration of digital libraries and to provide new ways to access efficiently to digitized comic books, it is necessary to index efficiently their content. However the variability of elements present in the images (panel, speech balloon, characters…) makes this task complex. Different approaches have been developed to analyze automatically the comic book images in order to extract the relevant information and to understand the links between the extracted elements. The proposed methods aims to index the content of the comics.


Museum: reconceiving the memory and its loses

According to Lev Manovich, database modelling, data visualization and data exploration constitute a new key cultural category named « Info-Aesthetics ». This concept of Aesthetics as an information event is based on a semantic description of content and on the legibility of content. The tool most used in this field till now has proved to be the search engine. The information modelization, in its linguistic and also spatial dimensions, appears then to be a new way of describing and representing the world. The SLIDERS_lab explores these emerging issues from a theoretical, prospective and artistic standpoint.
